Contains published writings, correspondence, and research notes created and collected by astronomer Robert J. Trumpler. The
bulk of the research notes are about the star clusters Pleiades and Praesepe. Before becoming an astronomer with the University
of California's Lick Observatory, Trumpler worked at the University of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Observatory. This collection
includes notes on the Thaw Telescope, located in the Allegheny Observatory. Collection also includes a paper written by Harold
Weaver about Trumpler's work, "Robert J. Trumpler's Work on the Radial Velocities of Galactic Star Clusters."

Robert Julius Trumpler was born in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 2, 1886. He studied Astronomy at the University of Zurich
and later the University of Göttingen and received his Ph.D. in 1910. He moved to the United States in 1915 to work at the
Allegheny Observatory, and in 1918 began work at the Lick Observatory. In 1936 he transfered from the lick Observatory to
the University of California, Berkeley Astronomy Department, where he taught and advised students until his retirement in
1951. Trumpler is best known for his work in star clusters. He died in Oakland in 1956.
